It’s coming up to that time of year when we start looking for gifts for friends and family and I’ve started the hunt early as I don’t want to get caught out a week before Christmas trying desperately to find things that I like that are still in stock so if you want some inspiration on what to get those close to you then keep en eye out on the blog over the next month for the new, exciting, well thought out, beautifully wrapped gifts that I’ll be looking to grace my nearest and dearest’s Christmas Tree this year.
Today I’ll take a look at the quirky designed gifts from Takkoda and their Pets Rock range.
“Real Pets not Real Celebrities” says their tag line and although they’re right initially, they’ve actually made celebrities out of the fur paws they feature on their printed range of goodies as now everyone’s on the look out for the Amy Winehouse cat or the Dog that played Winston Churchill. I guess it’s our fascination with our pets that makes Pets Rock such a quaint and unique idea.
The range is quite varied so there’s something to cater for all budgets from the cute postcards at just 99p to the beautifully soft, faux suede cushions at £34.99. The cushion is really fun and uber funky. At 43cm x 43cm it’s ideal to use as your favourite cuddle cushion while you’re sitting biting your nails watching Dr Who or as an added extra cushion to cheer up your bedroom. I was surprised at just how well manufactured they are. Half of me was expecting a few dropped stitches but only because I’d received obviously something inferior in the past however my fears were allayed since this offering from Pets Rock was so beautifully stitched and super soft! Just goes to show that you need to buy the original items instead of wasting money on imitations which are generally much poorer quality. Like the idea of waking up with a Psychedelic Pup or an Amy Winehouse inspired pussy cat – you can now!
Cushions not your thing? Then how about having a look at something for the gadget minded girl or guy in your life? We all hate it when we run out of battery on our laptops or phones so why not get yourself (or your gadget buddy) a USB Powerbank Battery? They’re only £19.99 and allow you to charge two smartphones, or boost one tablet (let alone charge four regular mobile phones) and have a convenient charge indicator with built-in safety features of thermal management, and over-current and short-circuit protection. Not only that but it also holds 95% of it’s charge up to 30 days, so you can charge it back up taking it anywhere with you not having to use it until you need to. Sounds pretty good to me. They’re rechargeable (and uses the supplied USB to micro USB cable for charging and recharging), portable, slim, lightweight and also look really funky. Not that big in size, but they seriously pack a punch with what they do and how they do it. I was thoroughly impressed with mine and just how cute it looks on my desk. It’s also a talking point if you bring it out to play in public as it’s so quaint and attractive. I think it would appeal to both guys and girls into gadgets from teenagers to your mum and dad if they have gadgets that need charging. Certainly wouldn’t be out-of-place in my house and I love mine! Super easy to use too. Plug, charge and play.
Next up there’s the chopping board for the foodie or chef. Looks like it’s made from tempered glass which a lot of the great chopping boards are made from (generally Joseph Joseph use tempered glass) so it’s top quality, with little rubber feet to stop it marking your work surface. Unfortunately they aren’t able to be personalised, however just choose the character that’s nearest to the person you’re buying it for and I’m sure they’ll get the message…
There’s a couple of goodies to stick on your Christmas list for under £50, let’s see how many ideas I can get for you all in the run up to the big day. Do you have anything that you’re interested in receiving this year?
