I’m always on the lookout for sweet food that I can eat while I’m on a diet and inevitably end right back at square one craving chocolate or falling off the wagon after indulging on a rogue Twix that I might find whilst hunting through the shelves, however Yu recently contacted me and asked if I’d like to try some of their range and I’m glad they did.
Yu! have taken fruit and changed them into seemingly naughty but heavenly sweet treats. However these ones you don’t have to feel guilty about after eating as the calories are diet friendly with around 130 per bar and 90 calories per bag of fruit chews. Fancy a little granola with your fruit? Yu! have just the thing for you with their clusters in yogurt coating with fruit pieces which are like little funky pebbles of scrumptiousness and all for just 99 calories a packet.
The fruit chew shape is reminiscent of a packet of Throaties Pastilles without the sugar coating that you could (in the 80s anyway) buy in the chemist but without the menthol sting. Thankfully Yu! Fruit Chews can be eaten in copious amounts if you wish, as each bag counts towards as 1 of your 5 a day. Flavours such as mango, strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant and the simply divine blueberry in packs of 4 are available from Tesco for just £2.50 so quite a bit more expensive than buying the fruit itself but being in a handy packet is easy enough to pop into your childrens or partners lunch box. Small enough just to stick in your handbag if you have to rush out, for a quick but healthy snack.
Prefer a little substance, then you’d probably like their fruit pieces in yogurt coating which include Strawberry, Banana, Raspberry and Raisin again at Tesco, 5 x 22g for just £2.00. Well worth it for a non guilty treat full of healthy vitamins.
The bars however are becoming a fast favourite of mine. A nice thick layer of fruit puree sandwiched between crunchy cereal and coated with yogurt is simply sensational. Mouthwatering and wholesome, each mouthful packs a punch with it’s zingy puree. Even though it’s cereal based, it’s unlike other bars where one bite results in a mouthful of dry rice with no actual flavour you can pinpoint apart from being just sweet. These bars actually have substance to stop you feeling hungry when you get the diet munchies and tingle your tastebuds enough to stop the sugar craving.
On special right now at Tesco too – so grab a few packs while you can because they’re sure to sell out!
